As it turned out, Dan and I had both selected to ride the greatest bike ever made: the All-City Nature Boy. His was set up with some flat bars and Ergon grips, mine with the Salsa Cowbells.
We all rolled out onto the trail and rode to Marseilles, where we refueled on some summertime nectar and beef jerky before turning back.
The I&M trail is a lot like the Great Western Trail that I am so used to riding, except that the terrain varies a bit more from dirt to limestone to loose gravel, and there are more twists and turns, and the scenery is a lot more entertaining... Basically it's a much less mind-numbing version of the GWT.
When we returned to Utica, we headed over to Duffy's pub for some post ride chow and beer. I was really impressed with their grilled veggie sandwich and pleasantly surprised by their wide selection of beers on tap. I ended up with a Founder's Porter and a Smuttynose IPA. Delicious. All in all, it was a great evening with great company and I'd love to do it again.
