Krampusnacht Gravel Ride

DSC_0012.jpg

We got a small group together and went out and rode some gravel last night. Pictured above, from left to right, myself with an excellent pair of GORE Windstopper gloves and a flask of schnapps in celebration of Krampusnacht, Jakey La Kruz, underdressed and freezing, but looking really hot in his new retro Descente jersey found on E-bay, and Ross sporting his fantastic new Vulpine jacket, which are now available at our shop.

Ross again, Ken on his Surly LHT with elkhide bar wrap, and Jeffrey, representing "Team Go Fast" with the only aluminum/carbon bike in the group.

I made the mistake of riding my Surly Pacer, which was equipped with 700x25c tires, and I inevitably got a flat. Fortunately I had all of the necessary equipment to make for a quick fix. When you ride loose gravel with road tires, you are practically asking for a pinch flat. I knew this, but I have been enjoying the Pacer lately and didn't have time to swap the current tires for larger ones (I don't even know why I own 25mm tires, they're practically useless out here and really limit the amount of riding you can do. The gravel is just everywhere and trying to avoid it is no fun.)

Although, the flat tire happened to occur right outside of Gumby's estate, and we were fortunate enough to have him come out and visit with us while dressed in pajamas. We attempted to recruit him on the ride, but had no such luck and he retreated to his warm barn and glass of hard cider shortly after.
